A link to the movie's web site would help people form an opinion.

http://www.astroboy-themovie.com/

Looks like an entertaining family film, something along the lines of a Pixar or DreamWorks Animation movie. My fiance's dad is 61 years old, and he remembers the original Astro Boy, so he would probably enjoy this. I think this film is also a good way to reintroduce the old franchise to a younger audience as well.

I hope it doesn't suck or they destory it. Remakes are like a big no no in my book but we'll see. Batman with Bale in it was a rare gem.

The Christian Bale Batman movies, as well as Astroboy, are not really remakes, more like reboots. Same characters and settings, but different time lines, updated adjustments to origins and/or characteristics, and sometimes, story adjustments (which are not always good, but in the case of Batman Begins and Dark Knight, very good Smiley ).

Astroboy looks promising. In my opinion, this is a great way to bring old school anime to mainstream US audiences, by way of CGI. The new Gatchaman movie being released next year is also taking this approach. Funny enough, both movies are done my Imagi Studios, who are also doing a Tetsujin 28 (aka Gigantor) movie. I have high hopes for this.

Reboots. I guess you can call it that now. From what the preview look on AstroBoy, I might pass. However, if people give good reviews when the movie comes out I might take a look at it in the movies. I usually don't watch CGI kiddy movies in the theater. I wait until I can rent it. The only movie that surprised me was UP. I took a chance on that movie and I love it (And cried in the movie as well). It was much entertaining then the movies that came out this summer so far.

You shouldn't let other people's reviews keep you from watching a movie. The thought process in deciding to see a movie should go like this:

1. Watch trailer.

2. Did I like it?

3. Make decision to go based on answer to question # 2.

It should really be that simple, but sadly enough, for a lot of people it is not. They entrust their decisions based on OTHER peoples tastes.

Actually most of the times, I do follow my own opinion on what I see from a trailer if the movie is worth to watch. I see rare gem movies, like There will be Blood or No Country for Old Men, movies that my friends think are boring. However, for kiddy movies I am cautious of watching it in the theaters because it's not my real style to spend $10 for it. Like I said with Up, I took a chance on it, read what others wrote and figured most people liked it which is rare and spent the $10 on it. I loved the movie and was satisfied at the end. A real good plot, nice CGI, and loved the humor. I am hoping AstroBoy is like that too.

I hope this turns out well. I love Astro Boy and any of Tezuka's work too much to miss out on this.
